Default 2002/2003 Discovery II

Hey Group, I am in the market for an SUV and have been considering a 2002/2003 Discovery II. The dealer keeps telling me it is a reliable car that has been improved over the period when LR was owned by BMW. Since most of the online ratings don't have enough history to rate either of these years, I am having a hard time substantiating what the dealer is saying.

I would be very appreciative of thoughts anyone has on making the switch from American made SUV's to the Discovery......Many Thanks!

Mike

that advice is nothing but CRAP! I owned a 1994, 2003 and a 2004 LR Discovery. Land rovers are maintenance thirsty vehicles. I lemon lawed my 2003 about 14 months after the salesman told my wife there were 400 new changes to the Disco and I wouldn't see the same problems that I saw with the 1995. Well he was right, I saw all NEW problems. I work on Land Rovers daily. I've seen it and heard it all. If you want my advice........RUN!

I have owned my 03 Disco for about 1 year and I haven't had any issues with it. I do think the domestic SUVs are cheaper and easier to maintain.

I have had some issues with my 01 discovery but nothing major. The seals in my transfer case were bad so it started leaking oil... its wasn't too pricey to fix. The only other issue I have had is that my sunroofs leak, both of them. The bad thing I've learned about that is that you can't just buy new seals you have to buy the whole sunroof package, the sunroof motor, wires etc (basically everything but the glass). Other than that it has been AWESOME!
