well, if his cam bearings walked and the journals are still good, then he can get a nice Cam to put in there and then rebuild the rest with 4.6 internals.

my 4.6 with the Crower 53229 Level 2 Camshaft is fun to drive.

Main bearing wearing is usually next to non-existent, rods can have a little wear typically. Been in the bottom of several of them. My bet is walked cam bearing.

I got into it this morning and it appears that has been some cam bearing movement, but I'm not 100%. Certainly nothing near some of the google images I've seen. I've attached the best images I could take, starting with the bearing closest to the front of the car "Bearing 1", to theback of the car "Bearing 5".

Bearing 1

Bearing 2

Bearing 3

Bearing 4

Bearing 5

Honestly the more I look at this the more I think the bearings are spot on, and what I'm seeing is the slight play in the camshaft. I think I'll pull a main bearing now and see whats up.

From the engines I've seen it's usually #3. Lower bearing wear all depends on how previous owners treated it oil change wise.

That is pretty brutally low, running 10/30 Mobil1 synthetic I got

50 psi cold
15 ish warm idle
10-9 ish hot idle
low 40 to mid 40's 2000 rpm hot

Those numbers improved with a 10/40

50 psi cold
20-18 ish warm idle
Hot idle after long drive mixed hiway and city (2 hourrs)
15-12 ish hot idle
mid 40's to high 40 's 2000 rpm hot

Ok, none of those are walked. One other thing to check given the recent HG job, check the rocker shafts. If they somehow got installed upside down you will have no oil pressure. I thought I did that once and it turned out I forgot to torque the rocker towers - same result, low oil pressure.

Funny you mention that. When I rebuilt the rocker assemblies I did a side by side comparison of the old vs new and noticed that on the new I had mixed up all the intake and exhaust rockers. But I think I just found what was wrong.

After the work I had done I had a single leftover bolt. Couldn’t figure out where it went, even started a thread looking for it. Today when I checked the o-ring on the timing cover I realized I was missing this bolt:

I think I may have found my problem. Looks like this bolt may allow air to seep into the oil pickup if missing. I will keep you all posted.
