Post 2003 Disco with P0171, P0130, and P1171

Get through one set of issues and new ones come...

New plugs and wires resolved P0301, P1300, and P0306 issues. P0414 was addressed with a new vacuum solenoid and rapair to wires.

Erased all DTCs and have completed all driving cycles with no CEL!

Ooops!!!

On a long freeway drive, on the way home the CEL came on. Engine still seems happy and running like a champ. When I got home I plugged in the Innova 3130 and got (in order) P0171, P0130, and P1171. All seem to have something to do with the engine running lean on the left bank (or bank 1).

Is this an O2 related issue? Certainly seems like some sort of enegine management issue. MAF? RAVE didn't seem to be much help on these issues other then offering the definitions for the DTCs.

I am determined to try and address every issue on my Disco and sort them out properly as winter is coming soon to North Idaho and I love my Disco!!!

A 130 is a dead 02 sensor and as such, you should be looking at replace both the fronts to maintain a good ai/'fuel ration at both banks.

Well I piggybacked on this thread since I have the same codes: (three total in order as follows)
1. P0130
2. P0171
3. P1171

I replaced all four O2 sensors about 30K miles ago. Coincidently the codes appeared about 10 miles after performing a compression test. I am wondering if whiling performing the test (cranking w/o spark plugs in causing the cylinders to load up with fuel as well as the squirts of oil in the cylinder(s) to check for blow-by) had anything to do with toasting my o2 sensor.

Before buy a new sensor I wanted to see if this is common and if this would correct itself.
Other things to consider is I noticed the purge valve is making a ticking noise now (i have not noticed this in the past), plus the truck seems to idol rough while sitting at a stop light. - This has me thinking it may be more than an 02 sensor issue.

Any thoughts?

BTW - I was pleasantly surprised with the results of my compression test. All cylinders at within 7% of each other and are around 168PSI.

I've been through this recently. I suspect your MAF and front sensors. The MAF can cause all sorts of problems. I would pull a sensor and see if it is covered in carbon. If so, your MAF has probably been causing problems that fouled your oxygen sensors. You can try cleaning the MAF and oxygen sensors but I haven't had any luck cleaning any of them. I just got new and the codes went away.

There is a 33 dollar MAF on Amazon that actually works... I have a thread on it. I think in an 03 you would have to take the MAF sensor out and put it in your barrel because the intake size is slightly different than mine (I have a 2000). Massive savings over OEM. My from o2s had to be replaced after two weeks (from new) because of a bad MAF.

Best way to find out is if you are lucky enough to know someone with a Disco who will let you swap MAFs. You'll know immediately if that is the problem.

I never got an MAF code but after two months of HELL popping a new MAF and new oxygen sensors in fixed the problem. I think the oxygen sensors (Bosch 15175, if memory serves) were 50 dollars each.

Thanks for the good info. I'll check it out. Is there a test that can be performed on a MAF to test it?

Did you mean MAF? If so, I'm not aware of one.

Just pulled another code on the way home from work (in order). P0134 and P0171.

Any suggestions?

You need a new O2 sensor.

Use
http://enginecodemaster.com

P0171, P0130, and P1171.

P0171 = System too rich (bank 1) Multiplication injector adaptive fuelling - rich limit exceeded LH bank.

Land Rover Engine Code: P0130 = O2 = sensor circuit malfunction (bank 1, sensor 1) Front sensor LH bank stoichiometric ratio outside operating band.
