Default 2003 discovery se7 speedometer not working

Good evening.. I am the proud owner of a discovery purchase it brand new. for the last few years, every time it is wet out or raining or humid, the speedometer starts bouncing around.. and then it would gradually fix itself until about two months ago, where it completely kicked the bucket.. i decided to drive around with my o. B d scanner plugged in and was reviewing the live data, which showed the vss registering the speed.. So I decided to rule out the vehicle speed sensors and the slabs computer, as we are getting signal.

I called someone at atlantic british parts that owns the same vehicle and he tells me that I must find the wire that comes out of the firewall underneath the driver's side dashboard, which leads to the speed trans.Ducer feeding the speedometer instrument panel.

For the life of me, I cannot find this frickin' wire, as i'm sure it is shorting out because about a week ago, the speedometer started working again for about twenty miles.. i know the speed transducer is located inside the transmission. I purchased the sensor just in case. But could not find it until someone told me that it's probably not the case.

Where is the wire coming out of the transmission feeding the speedometer?

Can anyone help with this?I'd be very grateful

Do you have a copy of the Rave manual? There is a "Sticky" that has sources for the manual. This manual, if you don't have it, is a must for all things D2. It should shed some light on what your looking for.

I've never had this issue: however, I did have an issue with my headlights not working when switched at the stalk. Sometimes they would work and some not. They would work and hit a bump/go out then hit another bump and come on. My point is that I had to take apart the dash/remove the gauges, etc.....under that is several harnesses. I had a headlight/power wire rub against the metal dash support. That wire would short out the lights. It would weld itself until the next bump. Inspecting those wires that the gauges plug in would be something I would do? 20+ years of pounding under there could have had a similar situation? Good luck!
