Default 2003 head gasket grooves

Me and a buddy of mine wrenched down my 2003 disco II yesterday. Long story short, it had the classic rover tick for over 20k miles.... tried everything to quite it down, no luck. It finally died on me a month ago... massive misfire. Probably just the coils.... again. Coolant was leaking for awhile out the back of the passenger side head gasket.... typical. So, I decided to just rip it down. Only one head off so far. But, what I did notice is light grooves in the head gasket on cylinders #4 and #6. Leads me to believe the liner are slipping causing the "knock" when warm. Is this indisputable truth that I really have slipped liners????

I think you need 5 posts to post a pic.
Just type anything a couple times, and try again.

Circular grooves, as the liner itself was pressing into the gasket? A ring just around the outside of the cylinder hole in the gasket?

It's a groove that looks like the cylinders hammered into it. All the cylinders are resting flush with the deck now. Which has me scratching my head even more.

I know we should be talking tight tolerances. And the sleeve should "theoretically" be sandwiched between the head gasket and the bottom lip keeping such a problem at bay. But, the forces of the piston over time, has got to exacerbate even .001" clearance over time.
