Would you prefer a sleeved 4.6 from a good block over the 4.0? The difference is the crankshaft correct?

Yes, the fit between sleeves and the block were much better on the earlier blocks. I have never seen a pre-03 with a ticking due to slipped sleeves. My understanding is they had lower incident rates of walked cam bearings also.
