Just bought a 2004 Disco about a month ago. It was running rough and had an obvious blown head gasket. I figured "No big deal. I can replace a head gasket." Long story short, the block was damaged. So now I am faced with an engine rebuild which is fine except I have never done one before. So here is the general approach I am taking. I welcome any advice you might have.
Turner engineering flanges - install with local machine shops
Local machine shop examine heads for warping, for valve guide wear, grind/reseat valves and seats, install new stem seals, and test the existing valve springs
New lifters, rods, main bearing and connecting rod inserts
New piston rings
Anything else I should be considering? I will document the process as I go.
