Love that index card idea... I've been painting wheels on my VW and after the first one I realized blue tape doesn't stick to rubber at all. Lol! Thanks!!

Awesome link! Thanks for sharing, those microscopic images tell an interesting story. When the time comes I think I want to do the 3M kit and then use this Sylvania kit to provide a topcoat:

btw - your whole thread is great, a lot to learn and emulate!

Started working on painting the back two wheels. Also used this as an opportunity to clean up the real wheel hubs and remove some scratches from the Georgia Traverse. Also tried to pop a dent out of the hood and ended up peeling off the clear coat. 🤬. I can’t keep looking at the spot so I am going to get some 2K clear coat and see what I can do to rescue the hood. If it turns out good, I might do the roof instead of black herculiner.

Wet sand with 1000 grit

Removing some scratches. Lost a C pillar trim so I have a replacement on order.

Golfball dent repair failure.

Rear wheel hubs were trashed from the trip so time to clean them up and inspect for damage.

Latest oil report. Tracking ok. Switching to a synthetic blend and a higher quality filter.

Stripped of the plastidip on the roof. Planning on spraying herculiner tomorrow.

Default 6/6 Update

Sanded roof with 1000 grit and wiped down with alcohol. Masked off all the edges. First coat of Herculiner going on nicely.

I hate taking the original paint off!!!

First coat

Love how even this stuff goes on with a rattle can.

Spent the weekend prepping and herculining the roof. Clayed, polished and waxed the rest and did a general detail. I went out to take a picture today as it’s the first sunny day we’ve had in a bit. Truck looks great - except now there is a coolant leak. 🤬

Looks like its coming from the water pump but I haven’t done a thorough inspection. Always “one more thing.”

Disaster averted. Pulled the fan shroud and fan out. Easily identify a hose leak that was fixed with a quick tightening of the clamp. I love the easy wins!
