Default 2004 Disco II, Possible to keep 18" rims and put on GoodYear Mt\r/ What do you have?

I really want to beef up my tires size, but I want to know:
1)Can I keep my current 18" wheel rim, and find Mt/R tires (if not)
2) Where can I find a beffy tire like the Mt/r that would fir the 18" rim

3) Otherwise what's the best bet on finding a badass looking tire for my Disco II.

*If you've got something other than stock wheels... post a pic and explain what they are and their sizes

If you want this bad *** tire so you can go wheeling, 18"ers just don't cut it. The selection os tire is small, the side walls are weaker then 16" tires and are prone to getting torn open and 18's cost more, wear out quicker and don't ride as well as 16's.
Find a good set of 16' factory wheels, sell your 18's and but on a good set of tires.

Get rid of the 18's
they do not make a good 18" tire which is comparable to the MTR
Especially not for the price.
If you do find a good tire, you'll cry when you sidewall it and have to replace it.

16" with MTR's is the way to go

Haha... I was thinking about going with 20s...

Actually, what i would do.. if i were going to go off roading 1-2 times per year, would be to get a set of 16s on ebay for cheap, and throw those crazy off road tires on them... M&S 16s will drive like $hit on dry pavement, and are dangerous at high speeds (especially if they are Q rated, etc).

If 95% of your driving is going to be on the highway, stick with the 18s, and dump the crappy Goodyears for a set of Michelin 4x4 Synchrone's... They will handle much better for daily driving, better in snow, and much better in rain, and highways....

Cheap 16s on ebay:

BTW, when they say "better ride quality" on 16s, that does not equate to better performance / handling. I'm assuming that they are referring to lack of bumps felt etc with 16s than 18s... thats true... the wider sidewall will soften the shock of potholes, bumps etc. But there is no substitue to the handling of the wider, lower profile tire on the 18s in terms of cornering, handling and perfromance...

Yeah I"m pretty sure I'm going to stay with the 18" rims.

Although, I'm thinking for my next set of tires it's either the Goodyear Fortera TripleTred, or the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza. Wayy better reviews on TireRack than the Synchrone. A matter of fact out of the 65 contenders in the "Highway All Season" the Fortera placed 1st, and the Alenza placed 3rd. The Synchrone placed 23rd...

Check it out for yourself.

By the way, would a 265 rub on a stock 2004 SE7?

Sont change the tire size... It throws off the speedo / traction control etc unless you do a +/- 1, etc...

In the 255/55/18 you only have a few options:

I dont trust Contis, or Pirellis... And the Bridegstones are not a bad choice... IMHO I dont think the tread is aggressive enough though, and is much more of a street only tire, etc

Looks good. It's amazing how awful the reviews are for the stock Goodyear HP. Honestly what was Rover thinking when they made the deal to put those on its vehicles.

Question though, would a 255/70 be too wide? Just curious.

By the way what kind of tire do you have on yours sna77? Or what do you think would look good?
