Default 2004 Discovery

I'm not sure if this is allowed, but I figured this would be as good a place as any to get valuable information on the topic. Someone in my area is selling an '04 Discovery with ~62,800 miles. They are asking $18,500 for it and I was wondering if that is justified. I see some comps out in CA that are priced around there, but none of the vehicle pricing guides are anywhere near that valuation. I'm really interested in it, but I'm looking to pay closer to what NADA/KBB are claiming it to be worth ($5k-$8k).

For that money, you could buy a rust free no -runner and have a reputable shop drop in an upgraded engine.

the original engine is not the most desirable configuration for these.

I had a feeling it was high. Found another in GA with 87,000 miles for $9,000.

At those prices it best have a stack to receipts for work done, read the sticky on pre-purchase but check the following :

CDL lever does it move freely forward and back and do all the lights light up, you need the engine running and to be in NEUTRAL to check. I can be a bit stiff but that is it.

Crawl underneath and check the drive shaft for grease points there should at least 4 possibly 5, I can never remember.

Ask and check the interior for water damage or entry - 3 common fault sunroof drains, windshield top, corner rubber windshield cowl to passenger floor

Ask about overheats

Thanks! Hopefully I can get into one of these I’m looking at without buying a lemon or breaking the bank.

I think that is the pipe dream of all Land Rover owners - not breaking the bank. I will say however I paid a lot for my 04 and over a year of driving other than rattling a ton of stuff loose on a 4 day off road trip, and doing my OCD stuff coolant flush, replacing the fan and clutch (chipped blade), and a full fluid change (diffs, trans ,transfer). I have had to spend no money other regular oil changes, a set of brake pads, Step/sliders (the wife is short), and what I chose to buy for spares. Likely under 1300.00 including the sliders after the OCD stuff. She has got me home every time and seems to happily tackle everything I throw at her.

RICHARD is correct. Maintain you cooling system like your life depends on it, and you’ll be ok.
