You should plan on setting aside $1500 to $2000 per year on maintenance. Even if you save some money by doing some things yourself and some years you don't need it, still plan and save accordingly. eventually you will need to spend that money and you will be prepared to do the job right when the time comes. Just because these can be relatively cheap to purchase in some areas, they still require proper maintenance... which is why folks who don't understand proper maintenance eventually sell them off cheap and in need of repair.

This is what I did. Couple grand on a nice non runner (good body and decent interior). Then put a Turner 4.6 in it. Figured any 03 or 04 I was looking at would need a new engine or major engine work. With that in mind I just started right off with a fresh engine and cooling system.

I got carried away and did a bunch more just because.

Same exact thing for me. Found one with a blown engine and replaced it. Working on bringing everything else up to speed.
