2004 Discovery Service Question
Just got a 2004 discovery with 26000 miles and I am new to the forum.
It has had 2 previous owners and I bought from dealer (clean car fax) but I don't know any mx history. Appears to run fine for the past 1500 miles since I bought it. For preventive mx purposes I was planning on running through several (most) of DiscoMike's 60k mile mx plan- am I doing too much?

You must always assume that NOTHING has ever been done to a used car.
Unless you have receipts you dont know what was done, if anything.
Here is what I would do if I had just bought that truck.
I would NOT do a engine flush, I would change the oil and put in diesel oil, like Shell Rotella 15w-40 and drive it until it hit 30,000 miles.
Then I would switch to Mobil 1 10w-40 and change it every time a "5" or a "0" was in the third place from the left on the odometer.
I would change the transmission filter at 30,000 miles as well as all the gear lubes.
I would then have the front driveshaft rebuilt with greaseable u-joints.
I would change the engine coolant, LR recommends every 36 months or 45,000 miles, whichever is sooner (this is for a DII, DI's they recommend every 30,000 miles or 2 years)
I would switch to Peak Global coolant as DexCool (what it came with) is corrosive and eats gaskets.
If you do a Google search you will find all kinds of lawsuits and cooling system problems resulting from DexCool.
I used to sell bulk coolant and I too can tell you that DexCool is junk.
I would also do a complete brake fluid flush, LR recommends that every 24 months no matter the miles.
Other than that you are good to go, you wont need plugs and wires until you start getting mis fire or O2 sensor codes.
Also read though the following thread to help you get acquainted with your truck.

Mike, I'm assuming you mean me, DW? Yes I do have an owner's manual, and you're probably going to tell me to read it, I know! We just brought it home and I'm going over it closer to see what I need to tackle. I did the Sea Foam induction cleaning tonight. I'll probably have to have some of it done at a shop because my garage is too small to fit the truck in and my driveway is too steep to safely work beneath it. I could do some of the work on the lawn if I'm not to messy. We are renting and don't want to upset the landlord. He lives accross the street. The truck is an '04 with 64,000 miles on it. I'll be doing what I'm able, each night, but will have to hire out the rest. Bummer too, cause I like doing stuff like this. We live in Albany, NY. Do know anyone with a garage that wouldn't mind hosting a Discovery maintenance party?! Thanks for any advice.
