Default Service Engine Soon vs Service Engine

So I'm ordering parts and spending money like a crasy guy when I stumble on to a British web page.

My 2003 Freelander has a yellow colored "Service Engine Soon" light and a red "Service Engine" light. The British web site says the Service Engine Soon light is a preset light that doesn't necessarily reflect a problem.

Can I reset the Service Engine Soon light? How do I do that? I have tried using my OBD II code scanner but it reappears. Is this predetermined based on mileage?

Help me out

Not sure how to reset the service light but it should be spelled out in your owners manual, I hope.
