I want tires as wide as what I have stock but taller which is very close to 245 So maybe 245.. 265 is the widest I'll go and that is still an option

235/85 is nice too but I need 7 inch rims so i need to take into consideration dumping $700+ for steel rims just for looks... I dont know about that.
so you need thinner than stock rims to run the 235/85's?

Yes, the DII rims are 8inches wide and 235/85 only fit 7inch rims

So you're saying all D2s 16 inch rims are 8 inches wide ??? I didn't know that !!! I know mine are... but they're Range Rover wheels. I though discos had 7 inch rims. Good to know.

Urban, I like the Hankooks so far but I'll admit I haven't been able to get them balanced very well - they shimmy around 50mph and I've had them done twice. They grip very well though and handle wet roads much better than I thought they would. They were about 300 less (5 tires) than the comparable Bridgestones but I kind of wish I'd gone ahead and gotten those.

JYC, my tires don's stick out past the fenders.

Looks pretty dam good in that piccy to me

So need to get an ARB or TJM sorted ASAP........

When you say you wish you had bought the others, why is that ? purely on the balance issue ?

How do you rate the hankooks in the thick stuff ? rock crawling ? Just looking for real time opinions rather than internet reviews on them, don't really mind what they are like on the road as the 18"s will stay for that.

The Hankooks are excellent in mud, not sure about rocks yet - plant to make another trip to Stony Lonesome next month to try more of the extreme trails and try some rock climbing. Check this link for a goofy look at my last trek through Stony Lonesome - the place had been closed for 3 days due to rain and we were the first vehicle in.

I don't know if the balance issue is the tire or a crappy tire shop - I guess I just read more good reviews on the Bridgestones. I may try to get the tires balanced again next week at a different shop and I'll let you know if it improves things. Of course, the problem right now may be mud caked in the wheel rim....

i am just curious, maybe I'm missing somthing. the first number in a tire size is the width right, so if i have 235/60's on my truck now, than 235/85's are the same width just taller and they should fit the rim.

the numbers on the tires are a ratio of width to height... not overall height, just sidewall height... so like a 305/40 would be a low profile street tire, its what i ran on my 350z... and 265/75 16 is ab a 32 inch tire... which is what i have on my rover...

i'm runnin a 2" lift with no rear sway bar with 265/75's and it rubs at full steering lock on the control arms on flat ground, and it rubs pretty bad on the rear quarters at full articulation... but a little trimming will fix that up...

yea thats what i'm saying the 1st # is the width and the second is the % of the width the height is, so any 235 should fit a rim that already has a 235 on it, right?
