Default 285/60 or 265/65 on 18's?

I have searched around this site and others for some info about tires on 18 inch rims. There is a ton of info and pics for lifed discos running 16" wheels, but info is much more scarce for discos rolling on 18" wheels.

I ordered an OME 2" kit which I should see next week and I plan on keeping my 18" stock wheels. Any opinions on the two sizes I'm leaning towards (285/60-18 or 265/65-18)?

Tires I'm looking at would be Nitto Terra Graplers or the BFG TA/KOs. Anyone think the BFGs are too noisey on the road?

Any pictures and shared experiences would be appreciated. TIA

I just installed a 2 inch terrafirma kit for my 2003. I've got the 18 inch hurricane wheels and I'm leaning towards 275/65/18 BFG TK/O's. Big but not too big. I've read the 285/65/18's can rub but I'm thinking about those as well.

I think these are 265/65/18 Duratracs


Don't hold me to it but I believe these are 275/65/18's on a 2 inch lift.

I've been saving a lot of images for research but unfortunately I forget some of the sizes. But imo it seems that 275/65/18 big and beefy but not too big.

any one know how big can i go whit my 2,5 lift and my 16 wheel whit out rubbing

Depends on the specific coils you go with, not the advertised lift in inches cause they are always different. Who's coils are you planning on using?

For all of you, do not forget, the bigger the tire, the worse the MPG, a 285 will knock 2 to 3 MPG off your truck, kill your low end torque and take out your spider gears with time.

Also, the reason most tire recommendations are based around a 16" wheel is the tires are stronger, have better tread designs and tend to ride better.

Thanks for the wisdom Mike. I have 285/65/R18s now and my mileage is lower than I would like (10/11 in town, 15 at best HWY, always running 93).

Is 275 a good compromise?

To be honest, I do like the way 18s look. But, I do have a set of 16s.

With OME heavy duty coils, what do you think is the ideal size?

I've got the 18's, any idea how big I can go on the stock suspension?

I just put a set of 275/65/18 on my DII w/ OME HDs yesterday and they rubbed a bit on the front lower corner of the stock bumper. Finally looks proportionate. Will the spider gears blow with normal driving or do the failures express themselves predominantly in off road applications...?

If you look at my profile picture album you can see 275/65R18s. Mine didn't rub at all, on or off road, just needed to flip the carrier.

Pulling up an old thread here.

I'm looking to replace my '04 Discovery stock suspension with OME coils and shocks but do not want the ~2" lift... for garage purposes and personal preference I don't want the lift but to keep the factory look with improved handling.

Will the 285/60R18 tire fit without any trimming or rubbing on the new suspension getting it roughly back to original height? Really like the look of Cooper Zeon LTZ and they only have the one size on 18" rim.
