I had a Britpart tank that cracked. The Allisport has been perfect. Unfortunately, did not have time to wait for ABran’s, had to have it ASAP.

The carrs4x4 aluminum tank I installed as a legit steel pressure cap with a metal spring like every old school radiator cap. It will release the pressure if it gets too high just like the crappy plastic one you have on yours is supposed to (which they fail all the time, hence the steam rotted and cracked tanks).

With all the ruptured faulty (new) tanks out there, I would just buy a clean used original? idk....

We were selling all of our old OG tanks to a repair shops as even the new Genuine LR ones are not made of the same quality plastic. That is why we developed the aluminum one.

The original tanks were not clear they were a yellowish/white color. The later ones went clear, I personally haven’t had one bust at the seams, however I have had several crack at the lower nipple.

Hi,
Well I went through 4 tanks so here's what I found.
I replaced the cap as well to make sure all was good. The cap should relieve the pressure before the tank cracks.
I installed an aftermarket tanks I paid $40 for and it didn't last more than a month or so. Cracks appeared in front portion between two bumps (who thought of this ridiculous design anyway, great way to add unnecessary stress areas).
I got a refund thinking that the tank was less than good quality and I should go to the dealer for a ''good'' tank (according to older posts)
Dealer tank arrived and other than having LR logo on a sticker on the box, it was IDENTICAL to the cheap tank I had just sent back. It even needed trimming of the foot so it would fit in the bracket like the aftermarket.
That lasted one month, dealer gave me another one and another cap.
Same thing happened after another 3 months...
The dealer guy called LR and was told they are all getting replaced under warranty worldwide these past few years. (likely due to a change in supplier... i.e. they went to the guy making the cheap aftermarket $40 tanks but still charge $300 for them)
I called LR and they told me that because my car is old, they don't care. I explained it was a quality issue with their tanks, they had likely changed supplier and she told me LR still didn't care as my car was out of warranty, parts are not a problem for LR Corporation... it's a dealer issue. I kindly explained to her that the dealers don't make expansion tanks, they buy them from LR Corp... she said they still don't care as I installed the tank myself...
So after all that fun, I went to a scrapyard and grabbed an old one that looked original and I will try that on. It is from a car with 120,000 miles so let's see what happens.
If that doesn't hold up I am going with the aluminium one!
So if you remember one thing from this long text: Don't buy one from the dealer, it's no better than the aftermarket one, and you're not alone!
I just did my head gasket and there is no overpressurization (if there was, the cap would deal with it)

Thanks for all the feedback and support.

Roby, you're certainly in the same boat I am in hahaha. Typical corporate money hogging measures to put the user at fault, when it quite clearly is their product that is. It's so annoying.

I have cycled through engine runs with no apparent loss of coolant afterward, but then again it was just idling. I'll run a pressure test to see if leaks show, but if that test is passed I may end up going with the slick aluminum reservoir. I've just about had it with replacing these tanks!
