3 amigo beat to death - same problem?
2004 Disco 23,000 miles
Ok, ok...so the "3-amigos" has been beat to death I know. I just got my diso out of the shop last week for the typical wheel sensor problem. I ended up with the Brake, TC, ABS and Hill Descent lights on the dash. Dealer saidleft speedsensor was missing and replaced with updated overlay harness.
While driving over a very frosty Snoqualmie Pass this weekend I braked while comig up on a semi and brakes squealed and the ABS, Brake and TC lights came on (minus the hill descent this time). Not too reasurring to not have ABS and TCon a mountain pass.
So I've heard referance to the brake squeel and lights coming on. Is this the same issue I had before with the missing sensor?
by the way, all the lights turned off when I turned the ignition off and restarted at the gas station.
Thanks y'all.
Hope u all made it home over turkey day ok.
Curt

Curt, I think the dealer was stretching it a little, you just don't loose a sensor.
As for your brake squeak, yes, that will throw the lights, what brand of brake pads do you have and was sound deadening material used on them?
As for cost to fix the lights, it will vary, but first you have to have a shop scan for codes, write them down and then have them turned off. many time, after being turned off the lights will not come back on again.

Thanks for the reply!
I'm not sure what brand the pads are. at 24,000 original miles I'm sure they're still factory. I'll re-address the sensors withthe dealer.
As for the "3-amigos" with the lights illuminated after the brake squeal does this idicate that the ABS and TC will be inoperative?

You are the only one that can determine what is still working. In some cases, when the lights come on, you will have no functions from the ABS, HD or ETC.
The only way to tll if your ABS is working would be a harder then normal stop on a loose surface and see if you can feel the ABS pulsation thru your brake pedal.

Squeal will ONLY throw a code if your hub bearings are worn to the point that the vibration from the squeal causes the reluctor ring to 'twitch' in front of the sensor. This generates spurious readings and causes the ABS to engage, which in turn causes the SLABS unit to disable the ABS to prevent loss of control.
The real thing we need to do is convince someone to start rebuilding these hubs properly so that it can become affortable to swap them out before they get too far gone. Non-servicable bearings are just a very poor idea in this kind of application.
