Default A 3-amigo dispute....

Hi guys,

Today I had a little dispute with my mechanic friend on the 3 amigo from my D2. I trusted my ABS Amigo but he trusted his experience. Hard to say who is right. The story is my ABS Amigo gives me "Front Right Sensor Bad Output" so I asked my mechanic friend to replace the ABS Sensor on the passenger side for me. Before he pulled the old one out, he used his digital meter to check the sensor and said the sensor was ok. Then he went to test drive with me with his A4-sized professional OBDII reader attached. The screen showed the speed of the 4 wheels when the truck was moving. But after the 4 wheels reached about 15 miles the reader threw a "communication error". However, my 3 amigos are not always on. They only come out SOMETIMES when I do a left turn.

Then he refused to replace the ABS sensor because he strongly believed the communication error implied something wrong in the whole ABS unit, not the abs sensor. (P.S. I had performed the modulator fix Option B from jycsalas).

So... I would like to gather some opinion from you guys. Any comment is welcomed.
Don't worry, I wouldn't quote any of you to my mechanic friend, unless you want to.

Yeah I second the hub bearings being bad. When you make a left turn the hub ***** outward making the air gap too big and thus giving a bad communication error. Just a thought.

A failing hub bearing, warped rotor and squeaky brakes can throw a fault that the ECU can think is the speed sensor. Your mechanic can be right based on how he is testing the sensor, it really needs to be tested when the light is on for sure.

SWAP the front sensors from left to right and see what you get. If the left goes bad again its the hub.

If its the right goes bad then its the sensor.

They are easy to swap out.
