Default 3 amigos :(

Well, took the camper (pop-up single axle) out yesterday and while descending a long hill brakes applied, I got a tone and the 3 amigos lit up. They stayed lit until the next key cycle.
I use Dash Command for my iPhone to read temps and such (cool app with the ELM 327 wifi OBD2 port dongle). Pulled a generic P1590 code.
Looks. Like I'll have to grab the Verus when I get back to scan deeper.

Prior history was this. While I've never had the lights on before (first for me), I noticed that last week, while descending a leafy trail with a wood loaded trailer attached, I specifically observed the LF wheel locked up (pushing leaves) and also noted NO ABS activation. Thought that was strange. No warning lights or any sign of ABS activation.

Hi, if the shuttle valves or shuttle switches in the ABS modulator are defective the whole ABS system will be inoperative. You need a specific read of the ABS system via the SLABS ECU which will, hopefully, tell you what is going wrong. The generic readers don't isolate specific codes to the ABS they are, as stated, generic and too general. If you find what's specifically wrong post back on here with the Codes and what they say and many will help with these issues. It could be the modulator or one of the 4 ABS wheel sensors or both. It could also be master cylinder related.

Thanks. My thoughts exactly.
I will scan with my Snap-On Verus which will pinpoint the actual codes. I will be able to view ABS data too.
I'll post back with results.

Default speaking of codes....

hello I have same set of lights activating with no symptoms as of yet. When I did the 5-15 paper clip trick I got no codes, and was chastised by a forum admin. ( diff forum) who said never use any thing but a lr code reader and all I would do was risk damage. i did at least clear the 3 amigos.

What is the paper clip trick? Is it a fix or just a way to get the lights to go away?

apparently (for me) it erased the code. But I have read on this site that it should signal with flashes the trouble code.

Get the ABS codes read, do the electrical bypass mod found in the abs fixes on this fourm.

Fix it right and they don't come back

A strange thing happened to me a few months ago. While driving slowly in a stop and go situation in a long lineup, I applied the brakes many times but very lightly and at some point the right rear brake began to squeal slightly and then I got the 3 amigos and a Rough Road Implausible on the front right ABS. This happened twice in as many days and it turns out that the slide pin grease on the rear right had dried out and caused the pads to squeal.

One other time right after I rebuilt the modulator and did the B mod, I got the 3 amigos and it turns out it was a piece of rusted metal that had become wedged between the hub and the shield behind the disk.

So it's best to read the codes and see exactly what it says, but I would say having all the components of the brake system in perfect order can get rid of an intermittent problem like yours. Do a thorough inspection of the whole kit, it's not lost time anyway.
