Well....after 4 days of replacing reservoir cap, the leaking has stopped. I replaced the cap 3 years ago. I couldn't believe that it would fail that soon. My throttle heater gasket as well, only lasted 3 years. this thing is certainly committed to leaking!! Now, I am starting my 4th year with head gasket replacement, and I feel pretty lucky. I can now concentrate on other items to repair or replace,

You have too much temperature changes in your cooling system
and engine due to bad components.

This causes thermal expansion and contraction in heads and block.

Put in a soft spring thermostat.
Replace the radiator.
Replace the fan clutch.

Put in a good head gasket - Victor Rhinz made in DE Germany.

You'll then not need to replace head gaskets so often.

You might also have pinging killing the gasket.

Don't cheap out on gas and put in Mid Grade or premium.

Leak never went away, it seems. Now worse, as gasses push through coolant system, and "milkshake" texture in oil cap. ****!!! I can't trust my mechanic anymore. All I wanted was a rebuilt motor, and he steered me away from that and gave me a used motor. Just keeps me coming back to spend thousands more. I'm done. No wonder this forum is so popular. It takes an act of God, it seems just to keep rigs running!!!! I am so pissed right now.

Hi Tomzsix, don't get too despondent eh, it's a shame you appear to have been stitched. Check your heads for cracks and distortions first and take them to a good auto engineering shop where they can do this properly and pressure test. Whilst they are checking the heads you can check the top of the V8 block for flatness within spec etc.

I popped the hood and watched the reservoir through the wind shield, when I revved the motor, the return coolant in tank looked like a fountain of green. Exhaust is clean as a whistle, but suspect coolant in oil. So, I'm not getting where the excess air is coming from. See, this is why I can't go wheelin'. To afraid my engine will grenade. Offroad France, I do not have the ability to do my work, and rely on rover shops.

Hi Tomzsix, it's a pity you can't work on your truck but in truth many don't have either the facilities or knowledge to do so and rely on shops for their work, so no issues there. It does sound like you have HG problems once again unfortunately but it does need checking out for either cylinder head cracks or distortion along with some checks on the flatness of the cylinder block which is also aluminium. It is unlikely the engine will grenade but water in the oil doesn't do any favours to any engine and given time it can destroy the crankshaft, cylinder liners and piston rings along with any other bearings. Can you take it back to the mechanic who recommended the used engine and have them/him fix it for you.

the mechanic said he would guarantee the HG for 100,000 or ten years. Ive gone through two water pumps, three throttle gaskets and $10500 later, still a bunch of ****. I guess its me. I'm the sucker. I'm a little pissed at the British right now. No wonder we are in charge of defense for NATO.

Holy shat. If I had to do that, I'd smash it...best thing for Rover gaskets is ultra black and copper spray on mating surfaces.

Of course there is always a Jeep!

You bought the D2 so I'm assume you must have known the issues first beforehand.

As for your final remark, I can always Trump that eh, but T May can help him screw up the world also. NATO is a dinosaur and dead in the water!

Just a short reminder, the original engine was a Buick but hey ho, at 3.5 litres they were relatively OK .............. well almost.

If you are getting the milk shake on the oil fill cap that happens from short drives not burning off moisture in the system. Check the dipstick and see it that oil looks like a milk shake
