Default 34.6" Tires

Guys,

Can I go with 315/75/r16's on my D2? I'm currently running 285/75/r16's with 4.5" RTE lift.

I have HD drive shafts front and rear. My 33" mud tires are starting to look a little rough and if I replace them, I might as well get the tire I really want since I don't put many miles on the vehicle at all.

I was currently looking into the wildpeak AT3W's from Falken.

Providing you are running wheel spacers to keep the tires from rubbing the radius arms, and the larger tires will clear the fenders/body....then why not.
BONUS>>> And getting the new tires will give you and excuse to fix the tie rods/steering issues at the same time.

I would be more concerned with gearing. Seems like that big of a tire would cause the disco to become a dog. I had 315s on a jeep once with stock gears and it was terrible. Not sure if rovers handle the bigger tire better but I would think not.

The Falkens are great! I've got them on my silverado. I've compared them to the Coopers (ok my D2) and BFGs (on my buddies silverado) and they're realuly the best AT on the market IMO.

As for the size, I'm going to be getting 35s next Tim I replace tires. I talked to RTE about a year and a half ago and they said that they'd fit under their 4.5" lift, so your epeobably good, but you still may end up with some rubbing. Especially when articulating. Definitely gonna be a dog with stock gears. I'm going to have stock gears until I can afford 4.56s. Hell, even the tires are a ways down the road.

I'd call RTE and see what they say. They seemed to know when I called them. Definitely report back with what you find out, too.

I'll be taking the truck to get the tires balanced again. They just had to reseat a bead over the weekend and I think they messed up the balance on that wheel (drivers front).

I do have HD driveshafts but DO NOT have HD axles

I know I'll eventually have to gear it and I expect to maybe rub against the sways or something in there. I know I'll have to do some cutting.

I think best is to do heavy measuring for now and figure out where it's going to touch.

I have no doubt that I can fit the tires under the vehicle, just need to know whats going to rub

I wouldn't worry about the strength of your drive shafts, it'll be the axle shafts and diffs that break first

You are going to want gears. I only went up to 265/75/16 from the stock size and it is noticeably slower going over the mountain passes with the stock gears, I can't imagine how much of a snail it would be on 35's.

I have 34.6" tires on mine, I have a 4" RTE lift, HD Ashcroft axles and CV's re-geared differentials with ashcroft lockers and 4:10 gearing and Tom Wood drive shafts. It all works well with all that done to it.
