Yep. I'm picking up a set of GBR CVs and will eventually re-gear whenever I get around to deciding what kind of locking rear diff I want...

Yea its not so much the weight of the tire when goin slow like in crawling or trail riding as much as it is the tallness of the tire. the mechanical advantage increases with length from the center of rotation, think a mini hand rachet compared to a 3 foot breaker bar to get a lugnut off... you can get them both to fit on the nut, and your arms arent any stronger or weaker

Default Good timing

Glad i read this post, i have 3" lift running 33's. i just ordered 2" coil spacers that i was going to put in so i could run 35's! After reading what you guys have to say i think i might just get the lockers and cones! Still gonna cost around $2000 though. What brand of cv's/axles's are recommended? Rarely drive the d2 on road other than getting to the trail.

Why do you guys prefer these over Ashcroft?

Because GBR's are less expensive and stronger.

Ashcroft Transmissions - Disco II CV and front shafts
vs.
Coil Sprung - Axles

I don't know about strength, but the ashcroft are cheaper at the only place you can buy them in the US:

Lucky8 Llc. - Take the road less traveled...
