4.0 to 4.6 Converson

RE: 4.0 to 4.6 Converson
You need to buy a used 4.6 and put it in your truck.
With a DII it is a direct fit, with a DI not so much. There is more electronics to it and the DI has fewer electronics, that is one of the reasons I prefer the DI over the DII. But that is just me. I like things simple.
If you are talking about rebuilding your 4.0 to a 4.6 then you need a new crank shaft and cam.
The 4.0 and 4.6 are ther same engine just different stroke and I believe that with a longer stroke you need the valves to stay open longer on the intake and exhaust strokes.
There is a way to do it, but you will only gain about 6 horse power.

RE: 4.0 to 4.6 Converson
You can get a long block for $4000 USD (remand) 4.0L.
A 4.6L long block starts at $7000 USD then you have to get the ECU remapped or the
4.6 will not run any better that the 4.0 as the ECU still thinks that its running a 4.0L.
You could get away with
$7000 4.6L motor long block.
$1200 ECU remapped
$1000 gaskets, water pump, sensors, wires, plugs, motor mounts.
$2000 to have it put in.
Then comes the fun parts
S1800 balance motor,, port heads ect.
$850 performance parts cam,,timing chain,,lifters
That the big things yes it can be done cheaper if there are things that you don't need
or want to do at the start.
My motor in my Disco runs like all other Disco's so I can take my time in getting
a motor put together but you have to have a motor to start with that not in a truck
and I wanted a good starting place so my 4.0L will cost more.
Going from a 4.0 to a 4.6L you would need a stroker kit to keep the cost down..
I have RPI phone number from the UK in my cell phone and have talked with them about
the 4.0 and 4.6L motor swaps.
The Pound is down now to 1.77USD to a Pound now so its a good time to get the goods from the UK.
I was getting parts at a rate of 2.01 to 1.98USD to a Pound.
From the U.S. here is the phone to RPI in the UK #011441603891209
As I said it can be done cheaper ,,but I like to do it so it will last ,,,Do it right the first time and not
worry about it.
