Default 4.0 oil pan gasket

I went to the local dealer to get an oil pan gasket, the parts guy said it's discontinued. One of the techs stated they use RTV for an oil pan gasket. I dislike RTV, but if it's the "approved" method, or possibly better than an original gasket, I'll go with it.

It's made by Permatex and sold at NAPA. Used it on my oil pan, valve cover, and head gaskets. It looks like a Cheez Whiz can.

I also used the "right stuff" it has been working for 0k miles without any trouble. If you really want the old gasket, check with atlantic british. last I looked they still carried them. hope it helps. gotta love a rover. duboff

agree - right stuff is outstanding. I used it on my powerstroke in a number of places. It is nice as you do not have to wait at all to fill her up just put a bead on and replace cover and fill with oil or whatever fluid the seal is used for ( water pump, oil pan transaxle covers...). I have never had it leak and it is available at autozone as well.
