Default 4.0 vs 4.6 fuel tanks??? Fitment

I have a 99 non sai that leaks fuel when the tank is full. I replaced the leaky top seal under the lock ring. I have verified the tank is not leaking from the new o ring nor any of the hoses. It is leaking from the rear of the tank but I cannot tell 100%.

I just brought home a 2003 4.6 with sai. I was thinking of swapping tanks. Visually they appear the same but I have not pulled them to verify 100%.

Before I go disposing of 20 gallons of dead fuel and dropping a tank I wanted to ask the experts. The pumping of and disposing of 20 gallons go bad fuel is more time consuming than the dropping of tanks. I don't have that many yellow jacket nests to kill!

Thanks ahead of time.

You can check part numbers on lrcat. I know the pump is different but I suspect the tank is compatible.

Thank you. Fuel tanks are different part numbers but lock ring for fuel pump assy., filler tube, lower shield and top strap are all same part numbers.

The breather/vapor tube have different part numbers. The 4.6 appears to have vents on all 4 corners with hoses connecting them vs the 4.0 tank has the raised provisions for them.

I think it will work. I'll inspect quick disconnects for the breather hose, if so it will be an easy swap. If not I'll be adapting tubing

Other than the plugs on the fuel pump container assembly the fuel tanks were identical. The 99 has 2 plus and a vent hose. The 2003 has one plug and no vent hose.

I didnt take pics as I was in a rush but she's installed and ready to go.

SAI vs Non SAI is the only difference as each setup is different.

Are you referring to the tanks or the white fuel pump housing in the middle?

physically the tanks them selves were identical dimensionality and one was sai(the 03) and the 99 is non sai.

Even the vent tube was the same. The 99 has the little 2nd plug with a rubber vacuum hose attached.

The 99 Tank was white inside and had a walbro sticker. The 2003 was black inside and I found no walbro sticker.
