I would be decidely against that design. You've basically created a hot air intake. Have you ever opened your hood in the summer after driving for a while? All that hot air is going directly into the engine.

Horrible thought and waist of money and time. The name should be hot air intake or 210° air intake you are doing nothing good for your engine.

I've run both ways on my D1, stock; and then the cone filter with IAT sensor just zip tied beside it, noiser, can't say mpg moved anywhere. After seeing enough posts about oil from cone filter killing the MAF sensor (a new one for a D1 is almost what I paid for the whole truck), I went back to stock.

IMHO more frequent cleaning of MAF with made-for-MAF cleaner, done when cold, may offset the oil. But how often?

As for the under hood temp, note attached pix. I was running a test to see what my heat gauge did when radiator was blocked partially. See that gauge is "normal", engine is at 235, and IAT is 91 (just hanging in the engine compartment). So if you monitor your own IAT, with scanner or Ultra Gauge, you can judge what is happening under your hood. Maybe run more plumbing and suck the air in from the fender wall area or headlight area.

Also, dismantlers are a source of things like air boxes if no boneyards nearby.

The only gain for running that sort of intake is at very high speeds where the engine compartment has cooler air running thru it, other wise you are doing more harm then good to your performance.

And that is fine, but I would highly recommend others to not do it. If you feel you really need more air, at lest resort to a cold air or snorkel intake and even these don't give you much punch for the buck.

I don't think it's a horrible idea since I've considered doing it to my 04 since the airbox is zipped tied together due to broken clips. The only thing I think I would do different is making a heat shield, but other than that I'm glad to know someone else has tested it out and not had any problems.

1. Nice HAI. The Disco has a nice large grill, so at speed it's not as bad, but in traffic... HAI. As we all know, hot air is less dense than cool air, so per stroke the engine is pulling in less air mass... which means less power.
2. Water fording is no longer an option for you.
3. Is that a ziptie holding the small hose from the radiator to the coolant recovery tank?
