Default 6x14 trailer just picked up, will it be the death of the D2?

The price was right and had to go get it, even though it may be to big for my back yard and a pain to maneuver around. towed it home last night about a 20 min drive down the high way. want to use it for camping. axles only rated for 3500 pounds. so with in the tow capacity of the D2 yes? as i thought i read it was a 7500 pounds granted trailer brakes. this trailer has none. but the brakes felt fine with it. with four wheeler and dirt bike and gear id say im a little past 2000 pounds or 2400. Thoughts, ideas? oh and i do have some sort of oil leak dripping from the oil filter and i know the gaskets set right and no double gasket problem. i was thinking of going under the truck and giving oil pan and other bolts under there a small snug. have had the truck almost a year and a half now. its always dripped some oil. yesterday maybe it dripped a little more under the extra load?

Check your oil pressure switch. They can start to leak and it will run down to the oil filter area. 99-01 is a different oil pressure switch vs 02-04. Older D2's use a RRC/D1 oil pressure switch.

Definitely not going to kill her. They're rated at 5500 in the US, but everywhere else in the world they're rated at 7700. I've pulled 7200 lbs behind mine without trailer brakes. She did fine, just had to start and stop kinda slow. If you know how to drive a trailer you'll have no issue.

WOW! Just few days ago until last night I was looking for a trailer just to stow camping stuff which I never had experience. That looks great. I was looking for something smaller like a tow dolly and build it up from there. I found out that it does not have any springs and my stuff might bounce around when towing. What do you think of a smaller trailer frame with wheels and lift springs? 1100lbs capacity? Cheers!

The D2 is able to tow 3500kgs or 7700 lbs using a suitable BRAKED trailer. I have towed up to 3500kgs using a braked trailer on many occasions, in fact probably covered 20K+ miles towing heavy loads.

I'm not sure of the maximum trailer weight for an unbraked trailer which is obviously far less weight.

PS: I looked on RAVE, page 122 of the Owners Handbook, the unbraked maximum trailer weight is 1750kgs.

I just towed a trailer up the grapevine heading south on I5 yesterday. Boy it was a DOG. Spent it alongside the trucks chugging @ 30 mph

The tow rating may be limited by the shear strength of the hitch mounting bolts, and not necessarily the brakes or HP.

the trailer has a 3500 pound axle so I wont be going over that weight limit with it.

I agree, i could see how its slow up a hill. Jeff, how much weight would you guess you towed? Also, what kinda awesome gas mileage were you getting?

my longest drives with the trailer will just be 2 hours and about 80 to 100 miles for the day. camp for a few days and then drive back home.

other then i had the ball to high, it all went pretty good on the way home. the fan was moving some air even on the highway so the temps sat at 188 all the way down the high way.
