Default 96 Disco alarm q's??

Hi all. I recently discovered my 96 disco has a factory alarm (just bought car 4 days ago). Does not have remote, only key. Questions are:

-Can I get a remote?

-LED on instrument cluster rapidly blinks for approx 10 seconds then goes to a slower steady beat, what does that mean?

-Out of all the times I lock it, the horn only sounded once.

Thanks!

Yes you can buy a new remote, either from the dealer, e-bay or a Google search.
You can program it yourself on a DI, DII's not so much.
The red LED is supposed to do that.
If the horn sounds then you have a door ajar.

LOL!!

The rapid blinking means that it is arming and then the slow blink means that it is active.

Another Q: If I set the alarm with the remote, how can I disable it with only the key...ie, the remote batt dies, or the remote is damaged while the alarm is set?

OR can one set the alarm with just the key?

LR's have what is called a "central locking system", meaning that when you lock/un-lock the drivers door all the other doors lock/un-lock.
The drivers door controls the alarm. So you can set/disarm the alram with the key or with the remote.
If you unlock the passenger door with the key the alram will go off.
So, if you lock the doors with the key you can unlock with the remote and vise versa.

That isn't how mine works in practice. I set the alarm with the remote, then opened the driver's door with the key. When I turn the key all the locks unlock, but when I open the door the alarm goes off. I then have to use the remote to reset it.

This is what worries me about the alarm, if the remote died I would be stranded.
