Default 97 DI Fan removal from water pump

To remove the fan from the water pump is the nut reverse threads? Clockwise or counterclockwise to remove? I have tried and so far it will not break loose.

it's reverse thread you just need to put a lot of torque on it. get some penetrating lube soaked in it and get a nice wrench with a 2 foot breaker bar and it will break.

It can be ridiculously painful to get loose. If you haven't already, rent the fan clutch kit from your local auto store. (Advance and Autozone return your full deposit when you return the tool) It should include both a holder you wedge between the bolts on the pulley, as well as a wrench that you can put a breaker bar on for extra leverage.

Also, like previously mentioned, put penetrating lubricant on it, every hour on the hour from the morning when you get up, until you finally work on it.

a well placed chisel on the nut works too, if you are replacing it.

Default clutch fan removal

I believe that it is regular threaded. I removed both my 96 and 2000 Disco's clutch fan by heating the nut with a propane torch using a wrench on the nut and long screw driver on the pulley. It's best with two persons.
