Default 97 disco alarm issues

so my 97 disco has some weird alarm issues.

i have no remote so i only use the key. but sometimes i guess when i unlock the door, and open it too fast or before the side lights stop blinking, the alarm goes off.
and even after i close and relock the door, it still keeps beeping until i lock and unlock the door a few times.

also i cant unlock the passenger door first cause that sets off the alarm.

and... sometime the interior lights flash on and off, and sometimes they stay on until the natural fade to off.

wtf? apparently no alarm went off when a douche broke my window just to steal some crappy iphone headphones. there's 200 bucks that i could have put into a new headliner or even a new lock remote!

get an aftermarket alarm and be done with it (D1 alarms have problems), most times the factory remote will cost more (with the dealer programming it) than a decent entry level Viper alarm and you will have better protection and keyless entry. If you want to save some money and try to tackle the install your self the install is not too bad and I can offer some assistance as this is my profession.

thanks rover chris.
i might do the viper thing.
although i dont care too much about the alarm, and i really dont want the "viper armed" voice. i just want the keyless entry to work, and the dome lights not to flash, and the org alarm not to go off when i unlock the door with my key.

are there options for just the simple remote with viper? its just a 97 with stock stereo and such.

You can buy a DI remote off of e-bay or a new one from www.atlanticbritish.com and you can program it yourself.
Only the DII remotes need to be programmed by the dealer.
No you cannot open the passenger door first, you MUST open the drivers door first, that is the "master" lock for the truck, it controls all other locks.
If all they do is break a window no alarm will go off, but if they break a window and then open the door the alarm will go off.
You can buy just a keyless entry system for cheap, but I would buy a used remote first.

On average the basic Viper alarm system (the 350 HV) is around $200 -$220 installed most places and you can usually find one for around $50 - $100 if you install it your self. a basic keyless entry (the 211 HV) is close to the same price (this is why I would suggest the alarm)

the viper voice you are talking about is an add on that wont come with it (it just comes with a 6 tone siren) the Viper will provide the shock sensor that will set off the alarm if someone hits your car while parked or tries to break a window (this is the part the factory alarm does not have) this unit comes with 2 remotes to lock/unlock the doors (as well as arm and disarm the alarm) you don't have to worry about the factory alarm anymore as long as you use the Viper remotes. I don't even carry a door key, just my remote and my ignition key.

and on one more side note I suggest Viper (or any DEI brand) because they are by far one of the best from many aspects, however feel free to shop around there are many cheaper brands that can offer you many more features for either the same price or less than this entry level system. I have seen long range 2 way remote start alarms with LCD screen remotes for around $100 where the Viper unit is going to cost around $300 or more for the equivalent unit (that would be the 5901 if you want one of there good units)
