Default 97 Disco needs work

Hey all, my wifes '97 Discovery is in the shop right now on a couple of recall issues and she figured to get everything looked at since it's there right now. Soooo, the only thing reasonably affordable to us out of the $8,500 quote of work she got, we payed about $8,000 for it a year ago btw; is the power steering pump that needs to be replaced.

I have worked on all kinds of different cars before, but I hope to save a couple bucks and replace it myself because the quote we got was $1,600 to replace the pump at the Land Rover dealership.

How hard is it to replace the pump and the belt for it?

Thanks.
Rob =)

Not hard at all. My motto is never take an older car to the dealership- it's just not worth the cost. If the city is big enough to have a Land Rover dealer, there are probably several smaller independentRover specialty shops. Do a Google search for your area.

If you want to do the work yourself (I would), get yourself a copy of the Land Rover RAVE CD, which contains the full service manuals and can be bought on eBay for $15 and even downloaded from a few places for free. Buy your parts from an independent seller like atlanticbritish.com and save a bundle. You might even find used stuff like a P/S pump on craigslist or eBay.

Overall, these trucks are pretty easy to work on.
