Default 97 Disco not cranking

I just replaced my battery and now the 97 Disco is not cranking at all. it blew the 100 amp fuse which I promptly replaced. Now it will not even crank. the battery has a CCA of 630.
any suggestions would be helpful

blowing a 100 amp fuse? sounds like a direct short to me, I would first look at the wiring at the starter and the alternator.

Chris,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I will let you know what I found. Is the starter relay a possibility as well?

I would lean more towards the alternator, as (to the best of my knowledge) this is the only item that is really connected to the battery through that 100amp fuse. so I would say the short will be some where on the brown wire between the alternator and the engine compartment fuse box. many vehicles have the starter solenoid, alternator, and battery all connected together but looking at the wiring diagrams, I don't think the rover does this.

may be a stupid question but are your polarities on the battery correct? that will blow the fuse!!!

well 100 amps can cut through metal (which is actually what blowing a fuse is, just depends on how much metal we are talking about) but in reality 100 amps can in theory burn the stud (bolt) right off of the back of the alternator or starter solenoid. Usually this will blow the fuse or the rectifier bridge in the alternator before that happens but I have seen it before (especially if you replace the fuse and try it again). If the polarity on the battery is correct and the battery is still good, I would check for continuity to ground at the stud on the back of the alternator (there should not be any as this is attached to the positive terminal of the battery) if there is ground on this wire it will need to be replaced between the fuse box and the alternator.
