97 Discovery fuel pump question
Hey
Well, my Disco wouldnt start last week, so i trailered it up to my mechanic and I was just informed I need a new fuel pump.
From what i understand, there is more than 1 model of pump applied to Discoveries of this vintage, with no vin or chassis code to determine which pump is needed on your car.
After i was informed on the prices of fuel pumps from various parts outlets and LR, I got the green light to try and find one myself. The only distinguishing feature on the pump I was told about is that "it's the model with the two recessed electrical connectors."
Can anybody help figure out which pump model my car uses? Is there some sort of retrofit kit to make the pumps cross-compatible? Or is my information totally false, and there is only a single model pump for 97 Discoveries? Any help is greatly appreciated.

How does your mechanic know the pump has failed??
Has he checked the fuse, the fuel pump relay, has he checked for voltage to the pump?
Here is a link for fuel pumps per vinn. http://www.dap-inc.com/parts/d1/d1_parts.shtml

There are two one is Advanced EVAP the other is Pre-Advanced EVAP the easy way to tell is that the charcoal canister is round on the Pre-advanced and Square on the Advanced models.
The charcoal canister is next to the battery.
Or call Atlantic British with your Vin #.

I didnt specifically question how he came to the conclusion that the pump is indeed failed, but I've used this mechanic for years. He is extremely skilled, competent, and very fair... doesnt go throwing expensive parts at problems and usually covers all the possibilities before telling me what the problem is.
But the charcoal canister difference sounds like the easiest way to check. Thanks for the info.
I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

The easiest way to check is the vin,
I don't care how long he has been your mechanic, but at the possible costs and Rover's weird fuel system I would sure ask.
