SES; cylinder 4 misfire intermittent
Hi, I am going to keep searching other threads but I wanted to put something out there and fish for some ideas. My son's Discovery II 2001 SE7 has had an intermittent #4 misfire code set since we bought it last January. The first time it happened I re-seated #4 plug connector and the code cleared immediately. It set about two more times between February and mid September when we replaced the plugs with original equipment Champions and a new set of Magnecores 8mm ignition wire. About a week later #4 set again. I pulled the wire off and cleaned the plug and boot and re-seated it and the fail cleared. Then towards the end of October the outside temperature changed quickly from mid 70's to mid 40's and the failure frequency increased. At this point I no longer think my re-seating the #4 connector had anything to do with the fail clearing; just a coincidence . My son has mentioned the failure occurs most often when he shifts into reverse just after startup and he can feel the vibration caused by the misfire, I have felt it myself before also so it is an actual misfire. I am thinking the problem might be #4 coil starting to short out but I'm just guessing. It appears the failure is setting more often due to the change in temperature and I suspect at some point it will become a hard failure. I could sure use some pointers from the Discovery gurus out there in Rover Land. Thank you and goodbye for now.
Ps. the new plugs and wires made a huge improvement in performance. I would recommend to anyone that has put it off over 100K. Its not near as hard to do as it looks. Cya.

I too have the p0300 p1313 and p1316 codes. I changed the plugs and new wires are in the way. Today I sea foamed the engine(again) I got maf cleaner and shot it through the hole in the maf. I pulled all the wires o e by one off the coil pack and had seen pretty good spark from each coil pack. I now am only getting a p1316 code and open loop on my ultra gauge. I am hoping the new 8mm wires I ordered will help this out. Btw, I have been putting low grade fuel in 87 octane. Should I Go to 91 octane? I have also replaced the fuel filter and new Cats. This just started the other day, prior to that it was running solid

Looking under the hood, I noticed a broken bolt up on the intake holding some kind of sensor in. I took off the sensor and it looked like it had a plug of sorts on the end of it going into the intake. I will tap it out and replace as soon as I get time. I also took readings off my ultra gauge on my O2 sensors:
B1S1 .045 - 1.0
B1S2 .065-1.0 and fluctuates
B2S1 .065-.95
B2S2 .96 and holds steady
MA1 .06
MA2 .06
The open loop will close on occasion and re open. Mostly OPEN.
I also sprayed around the wires and hoses to see if RPM's changed but no difference
Damn Disco!!!
