Exclamation Missing p1316 Code

I recently purchased a 1996 Range Rover SE. I was running great...until I payed for it. I took it to a Mechanic and after he ran diagnositics the code that came up was the 1316. He told me that if it was a sensor his scanner would most likely pick it up but a bad sensor is still possible.

He told me to go to the local autoparts store and pick up a manual and it would have a list of the possibilities for the code...Is this true? I went to get a manual but the stores in my area dont have them. I dont want to order one and end up waiting two weeks and not finding possible solution.

I also know that one cylinder is running very lean and was told it was possibly a stopped up injector. When i picked it up it had been ran low on gas. I plan on making an attempt to sea foam it today

I am a new owner and I really love my Range Rover so it would be great to have it running right.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thank You

1316 is an excessive emission misfire, not caused by a sensor but by how the engine is running.
What octane gas are you running? Pull a spark plug and see how warn out it is, what color are the plug wires?

gems engines throw more then one code but you need the right scanner to read it. Take it to a dealer or a land rover independant that can read the codes. Stay away from your mechanic as he doesn't know the system.

Im running 93 octane. Plug wires and plugs look good. Wires are blue and fairly new. There was a second code p0300, I didnt mention it because I thought it was only popping up because of the p1316.

Thank You for the quick reply. Would have responded sooner but my brother set off the alarm when he drove it to school and it took us a while to figure out how deactivate it and am just now getting it back home.

0300 is just a random misfire which will show up quite often when you also have one of the emission misfire codes.

Default P1316

I too recently purchased a Discovery LE 1998 and am getting P1316 codes. Checked the wires and plugs, all appear good but... I have water seeping from the head gaskets down to outside of the block. I plan to pull the heads, replace the gaskets and bolts. Could this be the cause of the P1316? Possilbly low compression due to head gasket leak. No water in the oil... yet.

no it is not. You need to have all the codes diagnosed trust me more guys get screwed by gems systems cause they don't know the system then actually misdiagnosing something.
