Default 98 disco lse or 99 seriesII

hi everyone, i'm greg from new haven CT. i've gotten the rover bug every since my father brought home his 02 disco, i love it. i've been lurking around the forum as a guest and felt reassured about buying one because there is such easy access to so much information from you guys. it's now down to the wire and i need to decide between a 98 lse w/85,000 and a 99 seriesII w/ 90. i have a land rover tech in fairfield, assuming the pre-purchase inspections come out OK, which would you do?? any and all opinions are welcome. i do plan to become an enthusiast, a little off-roading, i'm not super mechanical but i can turn a wrench and i don't have a lot of money. thanks guys and have fun

personaly, i would go with the '98. Disco Is seem to have a lot more aftermarket parts avalible, they're cheaper too. but im sure you'll have a blast in either one.

I have a 98. The Disco I is a lot simpler then the II and alot easier (and cheaper, sorta) to maintain than the more complicated Disco II

i would first look at the maintianence records, and repairs made. make sure the inspection is complete with the documentation that goes with it. Then drive both one after the other. see which one feels best and fits you the best. I make one presumption on your knowledge of the normal problems with the vehicles. The mileage is not a big factor. neither is resale. warrenty availabity is. If it is available , and you can, buy one. If you are going to do some of the work yourself then get the shop manual. Mine has saved me alot and will continue to do so. All that said, my choice would be the 98. parts more available and less expensive. If you are looking at the off road then the types of parts are more extensive. I hope it helps. gotta love a rover. duboff.
