Default 98 Disco vs 2000 Disco

Hey all--I have my choice of a 98 Discovery and a 2000 Discovery. Both need work.

My question has to do with the design of the 3.9L vs the 4.0L engine. I have heard that the 4.0L has design flaws that the 3.9 doesn't have. What's the story from you guys with real experience?

Oh yeah, I have been a mech for 15 years, so be as technical as you want---

Thanks in advance

Paul B

I'm new to rovers, but my 97 has a 4.0 in it, atleast that's what the upper intake says...

Rover has been using the same old Buick designed engine for ever, with few changes. The best choice for you would be the 4.0, at least you get away from the Lucas electrical and get the newer Bosh system.
