98 Disco won't start
My 98 Disco won't start or turn over. It makes no noise at all when I try to start it. I checked the battery with a voltmeter. Looks good with 12v. I checked the fuel pump in the rear area and could hear it run when I had my wife turn the ignition. Sounded like it was running fine. So I had it towed to a Firestone to put a new Starter in the vehicle. After two new starters from Atlantic British, each starter will not engage the flywheel to turn the engine.
Is it the tech at Firestone, possibly two bad starters, bad solenoids on the starters, or what? Secondly, should I buy the Starter from a LandRover dealer or keep trying through Atlantic British ($560 at dealer vs $170 Atlantic British).
Thanks for any help!

I know that this might sound crazy, but I would check and see what Auto Zone has to offer you in a starter, I know that some of you might get all mad about that, but I have found parts for my Rover a bit cheaper there, which goes for a lot of stuff that must places will charge you an arm and leg for.
To me, I see to think that it might be more then a starter, it sounds like to me it might be a wiring problem, I have seen this before on other cars that I have had in the past, let me see I think it was my Javlen AMC back in 1985, the starter went out, and I bought a new one, after about 6 or more starts it went dead, bought another same thing happenend, come to find out, I had a ground wire that was rubbing up againest one of the starter wires, which burned through and was making contact, thus burning out the starter, to me, this would be a logical answer, however it wouldn't hurt to check.
I wish you luck!

I've only seen this type of problem on a Jeep wrangler where their was a bad relay between the battery and starter. Come to find out the original stater was fine. Replacing the $3 relay solved the issue. I'm not sure if LR's have relays, maybe Landzu could confirm?
I had to look this up, and it looks like there is a starter solenoid relay.
It is behind the right hand footwell trim panel.
The # I have is K137, there is a ignition load relay back there also
the part # on that is K127 so no mix-up.
I do not know if the relays will have the part numbers on them or not.

sounds like its time to "scotch lock" the green and yellow wires at the alarm system again, behind the glovebox security module dont buy a new one just jump the wires two same color together that will fix it I work at a dealership see it all the time
Would like to know if you have discovered the problem yet? I'm having similair engine problem and started a thread "engine got wet" I'm familair with motorcycle repair, but this electrical stuff is baffling me. Any insight to my prob would be awesome, Jack
