98 Disco Would Blown Head Gasket Keep it from Starting?
I bought a 98 Disco and a 2002 Range Rover both with different problems for 5800 bux, the Disco has oil on top of the head and in the radiator, so I am quit sure the head gasket has blown, it will turn over but will not crank, was wondering if the head gasket alone would keep it from cranking? I downloaded the rave cd and going to try and repair it myself just looking for some advise from fellow owners who are not newb's like me
It will turn over but not fire.
Turning over and cranking are the same thing.
If the head gasket is blown bad enough then yes, it will keep it from starting/running.
With no compression the engine cant run.
Sounds like that is your problem.
Try this, turn the key on and leave it on.
Then on the passenger side of the engine is a schrader valve (tire valve)
Press it, if fuel squirts across the garage you have adequate fuel PSI.
If it dribbles like grandpa trying to pee you have a clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel pump.
If the fuel PSI checks out then check for spark, remove one spark plug and reattach a plug wire to it, have a friend crank the engine over and see if it sparks.
DO NOT hold onto it while doing this, if you do that will be the last thing you ever do. (60,000 volts)
If you have spark and fuel PSI then you have no compression.
No/low compression=no run.
