Default 99 Disco 2

I have recently traded for a 99 Discovery 2. I notice a clicking sound in my front end at idle. when i popped the hood to check it out i notice that the cooling fan is wobbling. What parts should i replace to remedy this problem? Fan clutch?

Water pump bearing is about to go out, then it will try to slam fan clutch and fan thru the radiator. Best to replace pump and fan clutch at same time. There are a variety of Rover parts vendors on line. Dealer parts very high. A swap for the clutch is one for a Chevy 2000 Express van 4.3 liter w/o AC. You have to enlarge your bolt holes in the fan slightly and use new bolts. About $45.

You can take a yard stick and hold flat side to your ear and touch other things under hood to narrow down the tick.

Whole shop manual is called the RAVE, and is a free download below. Water pump will need a $3 gasket and maybe some RTV. Keep bolts in order as length varies.

Other "gotchas" to look for - front drive shaft, double joint end, if original it has no grease fittings, dries out, snaps, and knocks big hole in transmission. Rebuild article in our tech area. Heat gauge - from 130-240F it points at 50%, if you want to know if your are beginning to overheat get a scanner or something that attaches to the OBDII port to read live data. Ultra Gauge is one, about $70, also reset codes, etc.

Needless to say, don't start your engine again.
Buy an Airtex water pump, the one with the bronze impellor, a new 180 degree soft spring t/stat and a viscus clutch if it has never been replaced.
