Default 99 Disco II -- PCV Valve Question

I picked up a PCV Filter Tune up kit because I noticed that I had some oil seeping from the passenger side valve cover near the rear. I was told this was a symptom of a clogged PCV filter. I have never changed this thing in the 47k I have put on so I figured I would give it a try. The kit consisted of a filter and two hoses. I have located the hose on the drivers side, but I dont know if there is a filter in there that I will need to change? The hose is in otherwise good condition and I figure if its not broke, dont fix it. Are there any filters under that I need to be aware of?

When I pulled the first one off, it was caked in a black tar type substance. How often should this item be changed? Does the Octane level I burn affect this?

Please advise.

I have 80,000 miles on mine and have never cleaned or repaced the hose, it has not rotted or gotten so and leaked. I will go check mine and get back to you, it is a good guestion.
How frequently do you change your oil, do you ever do an engine flush. If you change the oil every 3000 miles or so and do a flush once in awhile, it shouldn't get dirty.

Thanks Mike. I have never flushed the engine, but will be this weekend thanks to your advice. I change my oil very regularly at 3500. My hoses were fine, but that PCV filter device was CAKED.....

Where did you get the kit?

Atlantic British -- SKU #9205B -- its like $35 for everything. Filter and two hoses. Next time I will just get the filter, my hoses seemed fine.

DII's with Bosch engine management don't tend to collapse the hoses. You can clean the filter/baffle. Engine oil flushes will not prevent this.
