99 Disco II - Replacement Heater Core Too Big?
The heater core in my 99 Disco II sprung a leak and I am in the middle of trying to replace it. I have ordered two different replacements from my local autoparts store and both are about 1/8th of an inch too tall, so they won't fit inside the heater plenum. Is this a common issue? Is there are certain replacement brand I should be looking for? Or do I need to order from the dealership? Thanks in advance! Having no heater in the winter is kind of a problem, lol.
Wouldn't matter. DI, DII and '95 RRC's all use the same heater core.
Are you sure what's preventing the new heater core from fitting in isn't the remains of the foam that was around your original heater core? Frequently, that foam can peel off the old heater core as you pull it out. Just a thought.
It's not terribly surprising to hear about an aftermarket part that doesn't fit. I seem to recall Range Rover Classic aftermarket blower motors sold by AB that weren't fitting right a few years back.

they still don't sell the right motor for a RRC they sell you a universal mounting kit, you would be better off taking the motor to WWGraingers and have them match it up.
i mean really if i'm doing 10-12 hour job why would i want to mickey mouse the part that i am replacing?

As Paul says, it shouldn't matter since the replacement is the same, but apparently does! I wish it was only the foam, but we only measured the aluminum and it's a no go. It's such a tight fit with the old core, the new core won't slide in at all...
