Default 99 disco sd dies when I start it up.

My 1999 disco dies when I start it, I have to give it gas to keep it running. What's funny though is that I just put a throttle body sensor on it which stop the jerking it was doing previously. Since Ive put that on the truck itnow dies when I start it up, which it didnt do before. My mechanic ran a diagnostic on it and came up with tps and mfabeing bad. I order both but the mfa they sent was too small, so i bought the mfacleaner. It runs good besides the dying when starting up.Any help would be appreciated.

We need to know if it is a DI or a DII.
Do you have the electronic climate control or the rotory ***** on the dash?
You probly ordered the wrong MAF sensor.
1999.5 they switched to the DII, so just saying you have a '99 wont due.

You need a new stepper motor, also calledthe idle control valve.

Okay, is that something I can install myself and should worry about getting MAF now.

Dont worry about the MAF, just replace your stepper motor.

You could always try cleaning it first, it wont cost you anything and if it doesnt help then just buy a new one.
I have never replaced one but from what I have heard it is pretty easy.
Take it out and clean it with carb cleaner, clean the port it goes into too.
Whatever you do do NOT mess with the idle speed screw. If you dont have the proper equipment you will srew up your idle speed so bad that the trk will never run right.

That's what I'll do then is just clean it out and get that stepper motor valve. You know whats crazy is that when I bought LR the guy I bought from stated I could just turn screw to adjust idle but never said he actually did that or not. Think that may be another prob. Anyway big ups to you for the info.

Alot of people just turn the screw, but there is a specific way to adjust the idle speed, do it wrong and the trk wont run right.
Sometimes cleaning the stepper motor will do the trick.
MAFs on DI's last forever, just dont try to clean it, I know that you already did, but dont do it again.

Carb cleaner. Just a can of spray carb cleaner. Clean the port that it goes into also. ANd make sure that you clean the throttlebody really good too. If you park the drivers front tire on a 2x4 or a curb then all the carb cleaner will run into the engine and not on it.
Once you are done cleaning it the trk will start hard and run rough for a few minutes. It will be flooded with carb cleaner. DOne be afraid to use the whole can either.
