Do not try and clean your MAF, you could screw it up completely.
Go to a local auto parts store and get your codes read for free and get back to us with the 4 digit numbers before you go doing anything.

Whew! I was totally shooting from the hip, glad it worked.
The GEMS engine managment is a very simple program, it is about one step removed from a carburator. Not much can go wrong. Only two things will make it not run at all, no fuel or a bad crank sensor.

 

Maybe I spoke too soon it started back at what it was doing again this evening afterworking nearly all day,so I guess I should just get that part or is there something else I should try first.

 

Nope, just buy the stepper motor and a new gasket.
