Default about to install new Toddco front driveshaft...

2 questions. how much torque do I apply to the bolts upon reassembly? (anything else to know? use locktite? other?)

also, i opened one end of the shipping tube, pulled on the end of the driveshaft and the joint with the short, splined section pulled away from the longer tube with what i assume are the double cardans? (only double jointed thing i see on it!). how do i realign the shaft properly to reinsert the splined end?

thanks!

No idea about Toddco, the OEM propshafts are keyed and will only go together one way.

preshate the reply, AC. it did, in fact, go only one way. pretty straight-forward job. despite 112k miles of the previous owner thrashing through Ohio snow/salt the 8 bolts came off with relative ease.

for those wondering, they're the nylock type nuts. are these things standard or metric? hard to tell because 14mm and 9/16" fit equally well. so, i went with a 14mm crescent on the nylocks and 9/16" socket on the bolt heads as my duo of choice.

oh, and as for the Toddco? Perfect! multiple zerks to grease later and no vibrations whatsoever...thanks, Todd! (Very friendly and responsive fella too!)

When I worked on my differential pinion, I just put the drive shaft back on... "TIGHT" didn't use a torque setting. I ended up using a metric and standard spanners while removing and re-attaching.

especially the front. since you're having to hold one side while cranking the other, i say crank the $@#$ out of it.

Don't reuse nylock nuts, they are a one time use fastener.

If you torque fasteners beyond their specs they stretch, weaken and can fail.

The proper torque value is 35 lbs. Another reason not to over tighten is that you will eventually need to remove those nuts and if you round one of them off they are in a tight spot to cut out.
