Default ABS Kicking in when I step on the gas??

Hey there,

...the back story
I have a 99 Disco II, Abs worked fine and then I did front Ball joints. When I pulled the ABS sensor out of the drivers side knuckle, the o-ring was toast, did not think anything about it at the time and put it all back together. When I was driving and got over 15MPH, the ABS would kick in....I thought the oring that did not get replaced must have made some distance error between the left and right side, so I pulled the 30A fuse on the ABS under the hood to get by until I could replace both front orings.

So now...............
I have replaced both front o-rings so the distance (depth in the hole) should be the same. When I put the 30A Fuse back in, when I touch the accelerator, the ABS kicks on immediately. All of the dash warnings are gone, but the ABS kicks in.

Where do I start troubleshooting this?

Thank you in advance

I've got the Amigo, I will grab codes from there with the fuse in and a few hundred feet of thumping under my belt. I'll grab the rest with the OBDII and post

Hey there, not sure if anyone is still paying attention to this out there, but any help is appreciated. There are no codes being thrown regarding the ABS issue. It feels like one of the rear wheels being primed when I step on the gas.

Where is the best deal for ABS sensors for a disco II? Partsgeek has one for $118, I have checked britishpacific, atlanticbritish, roversnorth...all pretty expensive.

Is there a way to test for a defective sensor with a meter at the harness int he wheel well? Just so I can figure out which one has failed?

Thank you!

Don't go throwing parts at it till you can verify why this is happening and what parts to buy.
I can't think of why this is happening, are you sure you have the rubber o-ring seated properly as well as the sensor?

I checked both the front ones and they look fine. When i tested it today, it seemed it was one of the rear ones getting primed by the ABS system as if it thought I has a rear wheel slipping?

I was not stepping on the brakes, I stepped on the gas and the ABS pump started making it's sound and it felt like it was the rear being applied (the front did not pull left or right or telegraph any pulses to the wheel)

Some of the time I can get the car up to 10MPH before it starts happening and slowing me down
Is there a way to check for a bad sensor on the rear?

Are you sure you have no codes or are you just going by the dash lights? Maybe it's a coincindence that your rear sensor has gone bad...my rear sensor was doing this for a while...I had even replaced the sensor last year...but the codes said "rear sensor"...so I swapped it out for a new sensor...codes gone...dash lights quiet ...son of a gun...it WAS that damned sensor!

There are no codes being thrown, I have used the ABS amigo to check, as well as an OBDII link with software on my laptop that I use. I have a bad O2 sensor, I found that out at least....I wish it was throwing a code, I think the sensor is working, just not working correct and misreporting. I was thinking a connector in the harness in the wheel well in case there is some corrosion in there...
