Default ABS Modulator compatability question

I have a 2004 Discovery that I recently acquired. Supposedly the shuttle valve was replaced for the previous owner(there is a receipt) yet after a few weeks of driving I get the three Amigos on every drive and they reset after shutting the truck off. My computer confirms that the fault is electrical failure shuttle valve. My assumption is that the issue is the connector between the shuttle valve modulator and the plug on the ABS module. I read this article ABS Mod - LAND ROVER CLUB V.I.
on the various work around's and I'm game to try option B. But I also have a 2001 Discovery that I purchased about 10 years ago at that time I replaced the entire abs unit as shuttle valves where not available as a replacement kit.

So my two questions are.

Does option B sound like the right place to start for the problem I'm experiencing.

Is the ABS module in the 2001 a straight swap into the 2004?

Thanks

just do the Option B fix. you can do it with out disconnecting the brake fluid lines, so you won't need to bleed the system. it's pretty easy to do.

i have an '04 that was doing the same thing your truck is doing and i was getting the same
fault. i went ahead and put in a new shuttle valve switch and did the Option B fix at the same time.

This fixed mine as well. Hardest part is removing the 3 bolts holding the shuttle valve switch. Factory uses loctite which was tight as hell.

Using a 1/4" ratchet with a modified hex driver socket made it much easier. Cut the hex portion so it is just long enough to bottom out in the cap screw. Using a standard hex key, it felt like I could not get a good bite. If you round the hex, I think you'd need to pull the whole module to remove the screw.

Yeah, a replacement shuttle valve doesn't address the circuit board failure that the Option B fix corrects. It's important to understand that the word "bypass" associated with Option B does not mean the ABS system is bypassed. It means merely that the failed printed circuit in the modulator is bypassed. Full ABS, traction control and hill descent control function is restored.

I was about to reply that they are identical and completely interchangeable but before I did so I double checked.

Atlantic British no longer lists the full modulator. Rovers North lists a different part number for the '04 vs. the '99-'03 although the LR part number for the '04 version is not shown, only the RN number. BPUtah no longer lists the modulator. Brit-Part shows an old part number superseded by a newer one but does not distinguish by model year.

All that said, I don't think there is any problem interchanging the two, nor have I ever read anything suggesting there are any material differences.

But more importantly it's unlikely you need to break open the brake lines and swap the modulators. If you do so you may very well soon need to do Option B on the modulator from your '01.

Good luck.

Redrover thank you for your response I will pull that modulator and bag it for a rainy day.

I did option B in less than an hour and so far it seems to have solved the problem. Fingers crossed thank you all for the help.
