ABS modulator shutter valve spring broken??

ABS modulator shutter valve spring broken??
Hi
Pulled the ABS modulator to replace shutter valve switches and the plunger seals as well.
When removing one of the plungers to replace the seal, found the spring broken. the last 1.5 coils had broken off and was just sitting there.
The other plunger was fine.
anybody else have this done to them??.
apart from buying another modulator any idea where I can get a replacement spring? or would it be ok to find a similar spring.
Does this spring do anything more then place pressure on the end cap to keep circlips in place?
At present I have re assembled the unit, stretching the current spring to give similar pressure, as I done have access to any shops at present.
