ABS Sensor Destroyed - w/Pics
Just the ABS light came on a few days ago and ran the codes. It said the right rear ABS was bad. Also when from a dead stop and turning left or right the TC light would come on and I could feel the right rear brakes engaging. I would have to let up on the gas in order for it to release.
A few minutes later the 3 Amigos showed up. Once all 3 lights were on I never had an issue with the TC. But if the truck setup overnight and started the next morning I would only get the ABS light and again start having issues with the TC.
I have had a spare used rear hub in my garage for a while. So today I thought well maybe I can just change the ABS sensor and see if that solves the problem.
When removing the sensor it was acting like a magnet and had over a 1/4" of metal and gear lube. Almost looked like when you remove the magnet from a transmission or rear end. Once removed the shavings this is what my ABS sensor looked like. (see attached)
I'm guessing all the buildup of the shavings rubbing against the gears damaged the ABS.
My question is what would be causing all the metal shavings and I'm guessing I need to replace the rear hub?

So after replacing the ABS Sensor now my TC kicks in anytime after get above 10MPH. I have had to remove the ABS fuse in order to drive the vehicle.
Anyone have any ideas why the TC would be kicking?

Ordered a new rear wheel HUB w/sensor from Rover's North today. Plan to put it on this coming weekend. Best price I could find $321.00 + Shipping.
I have seen the write up on the hub removal while on the vehicle. I'm assuming I can remove the axle and just have it pressed out.

It sounds like the teeth within the hub that the abs sensor uses to read the speed of rotation, have been ground down inside the hub? I think that would make sense as to why the tc system thinks that wheel is rotating way to fast and is trying to slow it down? I've replaced two abs sensors and never had metal shavings on them like a magnet (or obviously looked that damaged). Not sure if you'll run into this but on my front left abs sensor, I too kept getting the 3 amigos after replacing it, and the only thing that fixed it was to ad gear lube to the end of it to fill up that 1/4" gap. Almost like it wasn't getting a good reading without lube filling the space between the end of the sensor and the teeth it reads. About the hub replacement, hopefully yours has always been a southern truck with little rust. Otherwise be ready for that 1-1/4" stake nut holding the hub onto the cv joint!!
