Based on your description I suspect the expansion valve has failed completely, doubt it is plugged, however both would be extremely rare. If it is plugged wholly or partially you could try a reverse flush. Disconnect the lines and attempt a high pressure gas reverse flush. Might not work but sounds like your system already does not work.

As a follow up to the initial story, I ended up getting a can of R134A recharge from the local autoparts store, the kind with the trigger and the gauge on top, and over the last 4 years have slowly kept recharging the system. I don't remember the particulars but I'm now halfway through the second can, and each time the charge seems to last longer than the time before. Perhaps it's lubing the seals, or the magical sealant in the can is working progressively.
This is going to be a dumb question but I’m also suffering the same issue with my D2 and couldn’t find any images or schematics of the expansion valves - that image and the valve pictured is definitely for the front system? Or it does both front and rear? My guy was saying because it’s a dual system he needs the front setup but when doing a search so I can order the part - there’s two completely different types of expansion valves that show up?

Well, I'm not sure what happened to my pics but they were screen grabs from the RAVE. Someone edited my post to remove the links because the pics are still on my server, yet my post has no html code to point to them anymore. Perhaps is was a copyright problem? Dunno. In any event, there are some illustrations in the RAVE that will give you more info about the expansion valve.

Weird.
